Family Harm in Porirua Reimagining Recommendations

Across three days in May & June 2025, Te Wāhi Tiaki Tātou led a series of Reimagining Hui across Porirua to explore how our community can better respond to and prevent family harm. These hui brought together tāne and wāhine with lived experience of harm, alongside local providers who work within the current system. The kōrero was honest, powerful, and deeply grounded in lived reality.

One theme stood out clearly: prevention and early intervention are critical. Whānau want support long before crisis. They want their tamariki to grow up learning what respectful relationships look like, in environments that are safe, loving, and stable.

The document below provides an overview of the Reimagining Hui and the moemoeā, principles and recommendations developed as a result. We have shared with those who were brave enough to share their stories, providers we connected with, and now with you- the wider Porirua community.
