Rangatahi (Youth)

We must intentionally include, enable and empower our rangatahi to set their own kaupapa and participate meaningfully and equitably in design, decision-making and implementation across all aspects of environmental management.

Rangatahi (Youth)

Intentionally include, enable and empower our rangatahi to set their own kaupapa and participate meaningfully and equitably in design, decision-making and implementation.

  • Reestablish a Youth Council to give rangatahi (12-24) power and voice within regional decision making

    • Porirua City Council (PCC) to fund a Youth Council designed by youth

    • Have a good recruitment process in place to make the application to Youth Council fair for all of Porirua

    • Have two Youth Council seats on the PCC that can be filled by any standing member of the Youth Council. Even if only one seat, have two rangatahi attend the meetings so they can support each other, and allow rotating attendees of any Youth Council member

  • Reinstate and expand tamariki and rangatahi wānanga across
a range of ages focused on sustainable practices (e.g. the Mātiti Tamariki wānanga)

  • Support the ‘Make It 16’ youth voting campaign

Porirua moves forward because people like you step in. We need skills, time, and resources to keep the momentum going.
